Broadband for America Responds to President Obama’s State of the Union Address
Broadband for America (BfA) – a coalition of over 300 members – today released the following statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union Address:
“The President is absolutely correct in his calls to keep the American economy moving forward by focusing on private-sector job creation and broadband Internet technology as the fuel that will propel America’s economic fortunes forward.
“The broadband industry has led the way in investing in American jobs and growth. Over the past two years, the Internet industry has invested over $120 billion and has created over 1.2 million jobs in the past year alone by upgrading to 3G and 4G networks. This has also led to new jobs among software developers, content creators and others who have benefited by expanding the reach and penetration of high-speed access to the Internet.
“We hope the President appreciates that broadband touches on every sector of the American economy from manufacturing to retail to education, and should be at the forefront of our efforts to continue digging out of the financial crisis and begin building an economy built for the 21st Century and beyond.”
