WASHINGTON, D.C. – Broadband for America (BfA) – a coalition of over 300 members – today released statements from its honorary co-chairmen former U.S. Representative Harold Ford, Jr. and former U.S. Senator John Sununu concerning the introduction of the Digital Goods and Services Tax Fairness Act of 2011, legislation which will prevent local and state governments from taxing digital goods and services:

“It is a rare piece of legislation which has both House and Senate Democrats and Republicans working off the same page – getting introduced simultaneously in the House and Senate and gaining the endorsement of elected officials from both parties,” said Harold Ford, Jr., Broadband for America Honorary Co-Chairman and former U.S. Representative.  “The Internet has been one of the few bright spots for investment and job creation during the past three years.  Passage of the Digital Goods and Services Fairness Act will allow that investment, hiring and creativity to flourish.”

Broadband for America Honorary Co-Chairman and former U.S. Senator John Sununu said, “As the digital economy continues to grow, more and more jurisdictions are looking at online transactions as a potential source of new taxes.  The Digital Goods and Services Fairness Act will help to provide a rational marketplace for consumers – as well as for taxing authorities – to help this important segment of the U.S. economy to continue to grow.  Congress should act swiftly on this legislation.”
