Broadband for America Announces Adoption Advisory Board
Broadband for America Announces Adoption Advisory Board
Group Focused on Delivering Message that Broadband Internet Means Jobs & Opportunity
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Broadband for America (BfA), a coalition of more than 170 member companies and organizations which share the goal of bringing broadband Internet to every home and business in the nation, announces the formation of its adoption advisory board.
Broadband for America’s Adoption Advisory Board will focus on developing programs that drive the message that adopting broadband Internet results in job creation and greater opportunities. Broadband for America believes that while advances are being made every day, too many Americans have yet to adopt broadband Internet in their own homes and businesses.
Brent Wilkes, National Executive Director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, the nation’s largest and oldest Hispanic civil rights membership organization said, “LULAC’s mission is to advance the economic condition, and educational attainment of the Hispanic population of the United States. In accomplishing that mission, it is crucial that Hispanic communities, for whom broadband access to the Internet is available, learn the value in adopting broadband in their homes and businesses as a way to reach out for more customers, better jobs, improved healthcare, and a quality education for their children.”
Dave McClure, President of the U.S. Internet Industry Association (USIIA) said, “Broadband access to the Internet is crucial, in fact, according the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, more than 63 percent of all adults in America utilize a broadband connection to the Internet to work, and to enhance the quality of their lives.”
The broadband and information technology sectors created nearly half of all new jobs in 2008 and contribute nearly $1 trillion to the economy annually. The major network providers have invested $100 billion in the past two years in their networks, so at a time when most industrial centers have been reducing their workforces, the broadband industry has been growing.
Members of Broadband for America’s Adoption Advisory Board understand that access to broadband Internet brings jobs to Americans where they live via telework as opposed to them going to the jobs themselves, creating greater efficiencies and developing 21st Century opportunities in every community.
In addition to announcing an adoption advisory board, Broadband for America is launching a new page on its website, which details the benefits of adopting broadband Internet.
