Three More States Announce Broadband Projects
As new broadband projects continue to be announced across all 50 states, we’re bringing you a closer look at some of the efforts to bring high-speed Internet access to every American home and business. Here is a look at some of those new broadband projects being announced:
BroadbandBreakfast.com reports the Commerce Department has awarded $6.1 million to North Carolina and Washington.“These Recovery Act investments illustrate how broadband technology can not only expand economic and educational opportunities, but it can also make the justice system more accessible to the public,” NTIA Administrator Larry Strickling said. The two projects will expand broadband access to legal education programs and upgrade 39 public computer centers. Read more about the announcement here.
And in New Mexico, the Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $6 million for projects that will expand broadband access in seven northern communities. “This is a way to expand broadband services to areas that would not get it without this public/private partnership,” said Windstream spokesman Scott Morris. The project is expected to create 244 jobs. Read more here.
