Past studies have shown that investment in broadband technology results in job creation and positive economic output, but the impact can reach far beyond the technology industry. A recent study, from the Economic Policy Institute’s Ethan Pollack: The Jobs Impact of Telecom Investment, describes the total jobs impact from investment in wireless infrastructure. According to the study, a one-billion dollar investment in wireless infrastructure a year would create approximately 12,000 jobs in that year, including 3,500 direct jobs, 4,500 supplier jobs and 4,000 induced jobs (jobs created from re-spending by newly hired workers). Over the past four years, broadband providers have invested a total of $250 billion in the effort to expand access to broadband technology, including wireless technology.

The data were collected using the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Requirements Matrix and other macroeconomic principles.
