Small Businesses Taking Advantage of Free WiFi

With more locations offering free WiFi service, small business owners and entrepreneurs are taking advantage of the high speed Internet without the additional expense. While this is not a new trend, it has become more common due to the restrained lending environment leaving small businesses stretching their dollars. Areas such as hotel lobbies and coffee shops with free WiFi can provide the necessary work environment for most entrepreneurs when access to fast, affordable Internet can be challenging. One start-up company founder in the Washington D.C. area even has different WiFi locations to suit her various business needs while she is still considering investing in office space.

Cost Effective WiFi
Communities should develop free WiFi service for residents, businesses, associations and institutions through a private/public partnership as part of their economic development while fostering local buying through a walled garden approach for these reasons mentioned.
So, basically local entities which could be readily identified by belonging to a community development co-operative would have free access while non-local residents, such as tourists, could access the community's information free but would have to pay to connect beyond local services.
