The FCC has published the blueprint – the National Broadband Plan – and must now go through the heavy lifting of convincing the Congress to act on its important provisions. The major network providers have done an amazing job of designing, building, maintaining, and improving their facilities. Now the task is what is always the hardest bit: making sure that those who have the least clout – but the most need – are given the same access as those with the most clout, and the least need.

The advantages to a high speed connection to the Internet in education, employment, health, and almost every other aspect of life in the 21st century should be available to everyone. The huge majority of technology growth and access has been fueled by the private sector. It is always the last few percent that require public help.
