National Health IT Initiatives Receive $228M in Funding

The Department of Health and Human Services is allocating $144 million to expand Health IT through training, recruiting and research at 16 universities, four research centers. $84 million of the funding will go towards the recruitment and training of 50,000 new Health IT professionals.
“Training a cadre of new health IT professionals and breaking down barriers to the adoption of meaningful use of health IT are both critical to the national effort to use information technology to realize better patient care,” Dr. David Blumenthal, national coordinator for health IT, said.
