Illinois and South Carolina Launch Broadband Projects
Broadband access and adoption projects continue to be announced across all 50 states, working to bring high-speed Internet access to every American home and business. Here is a closer look at some of the new projects getting off the ground:
In Illinois, the Blackhawk Hills Resource and Conservation Development Area has put forward a $70 million proposal to expand broadband access across six counties. The three-year project will build out 550 miles of fiber to government buildings, libraries and public safety institutions, along with homes and businesses. Read more about the project here.
In South Carolina, a $199,920 grant has been awarded to Orangeburg County to develop a strategic plan for attracting broadband businesses to the area. The plan comes after an $18.7 million USDA Rural Development grant was awarded to build 278 miles of fiber in Branchville, Bowman and Rowesville counties. Read more about the project here.
