Health IT is Prime Industry for Entrepreneurship
A couple of years ago, there was difficulty attracting entrepreneurs and investors to the Health IT industry. Today, there is more demand than ever to create Health IT software and applications, fueled by the momentum from government incentive programs for electronic health record adoption. Investors are also pouring into the field, as 77 percent of venture capitalists expect health IT investments to increase from the $460 million spent in 2010.
The market provides a prime environment for entrepreneurs looking to market the next big idea in health IT. Organized Wisdom, a four-year old health website, recently announced the creation of a financial and mentoring platform for entrepreneurs. The platform, StartUp Health, received 350 applications from start-ups in the first round. "This is the best time to be a health and wellness entrepreneur," commented Organized Wisdom CEO Steve Krein.
