This summer, the FCC is expected to open a resource center that will help its staff and the public to become more familiar with new technologies, including smartphones, iPads and parental control devices for television and other devices.

"At the beginning of my tenure, I went around the FCC asking people how familiar they were with modern communications devices. It turned out that they were less familiar with them than one might think," FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said in an interview yesterday.

Steve VanRoekel, who is designing the library for the FCC, said he wants to make its information accessible. “I want to give people both online and in person as much access as possible," he said.
