On Tuesday, the FCC released its latest report, showing that 80 to 90 percent of broadband connections are accurate of their advertised speeds. The recent report’s findings represent a significant improvement over the results of the 2009 report when the FCC first examined the issue. In the latest study, researchers installed devices in Internet users’ homes to accurately track speeds. The installed devices will allow the FCC to continually track the speed of the connection and release updated data.

The study included 13 major ISPs, but did not examine wireless broadband services. One leading service provider commented the study provided a "snapshot" of a competitive broadband marketplace. Through competition and private investment, high-speed broadband deployment can progress to provide access to all American households.
