There are a number of ways that BfA readers can make use of high-speed Internet to make financial donations and other charitable contributions to the Haiti relief efforts. What we're seeing here is that broadband-based technologies are allowing concerned citizens to donate to charitable causes in easier and quicker ways.

The American Red Cross has partnered with the major mobile carriers, allowing anyone in the U.S. to text “HAITI” to 90999 as an easy and convenient way to donate $10 to the recovery efforts. The money is billed to your mobile phone account.

According to the Red Cross' Twitter feed, they've already raised more than $800k this way so far.

Facebook has also launched a "Global Relief" page and is partnering with the Red Cross.  Facebook says there have been more than 1,500 status updates per minutes that contain the word "Haiti.
