CTIA: Wireless Industry Leaders Respond to Broadband Plan
This week’s CTIA conference in Las Vegas hosted a panel, “Industry Reactions to the National Broadband Plan.” Here are some highlights from the panel:
Barbara Baffler, VP, Public Affairs and Regulations, Ericsson, Inc: “All of the broadband devices are going to be connected wirelessly in the next 10 years. So, that’s why we need spectrum.”
Dean Brenner, VP, Government Affairs, Qualcomm: “This is a fabulous plan. This is a document the whole country can be proud of.”
“The wireless industry should be promoting itself as a great equalizer in society through broadband.”
Charles McKee, VP, Gov’t Affairs, Sprint Nextel Corp: “Overall, we are very happy the way the National Broadband Plan addressed those [wireless] issues.”
“Cost has been a major barrier to entry. So, we say give those (broadband stimulus) dollars directly to consumers and see where they go. Let the wireless carriers compete for those kinds of dollars and those kinds of customers.”
Praveen Goyal, Senior Director, Corporate and Government Relations, Research in Motion: “Our goal is to ensure the user gets the same experience while using as little broadband spectrum as possible.”
