The Broadband for America Adoption Advisory Board has released the following statement regarding the Federal Communications Commission’s National Broadband Plan (NBP):

“The Broadband for America (BfA) Adoption Advisory Board, a coalition aimed at improving broadband Internet adoption rates for all Americans, applauds the efforts of the Federal Communications Commission in addressing the need to not only provide broadband to all un-served and underserved areas of the U.S. but also the reasons that, even in areas where there is broadband, that there is less than complete adoption.  This is particularly the case among people who are low-income, or with disabilities, or who may be older, or live in rural areas, and minority Americans.  Broadband technologies foster opportunities for job creation, education, energy conservation, and health care to name a few.

“U.S. broadband adoption rates will be the focus for BfA’s Adoption Advisory Board as we continue to work hand-in-hand with the FCC to bring broadband Internet to every American.

“Our efforts will include both building awareness of the benefits and suggesting methods to address the necessary skill building to increase the non-adopters abilities and comfort levels with evolving enabling technologies.”

New Technologies

The wireless companies have one of those few chances to capitalize on new technology, sure do wish they would get moving on it. With the opening of the TV whitespace, they have the infrastructure in place today to provide broadband Internet access to probably every American. If they serve 97 percent of America with cell phone, it would seem that broadband over the tv whitespace would serve 100 percent with its longer coverage are per device. It they would focus on placing transmission devices on their towers serving remote areas of the country at the beginning, they would win over very loyal customers from day one. Come on wireless companies, look at the opportunities instead of seeing only what has been done in the past and win yourself millions of new, loyal customers.
