BfA Co-Chairs Send Jobs & Investment Letter to Leadership
On Thursday, September 8, Broadband for America Honorary Co-Chairmen John Sununu and Harold Ford Jr. sent a letter to President Barack Obama, Speaker of the House John Boehner, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid presenting the broadband industry as a model for job creation and economic growth. The letter precedes the President’s address to a joint session of Congress Thursday evening, during which he will present his plan for creating American jobs.
Highlighting the more than $250 billion invested in the broadband industry since 2008, the letter emphasizes the tens of millions of jobs that have been created through broadband technology, and how broadband has revolutionized healthcare, education and other aspects of our economy.
Additionally, the letter calls on the Administration and Congress to promote jobs and economic growth through:
a light regulatory touch;
limiting direct investment to those situations where the private sector cannot meet the need;
reinforcing the importance of companies demonstrating their social responsibility to invest, innovate and compete.
