AT&T, a member of Broadband for America, announced the launch of a new health IT pilot program designed to help patients manage diabetes. AT&T mHealth Solutions will pilot DiabetesManager for up to six months among a select group of employees at AT&T and Health Care Services Corp, a medical insurance provider. During the trial, employees will use the program to capture and analyze diabetes-related data such as blood sugar levels and carbohydrate intake. The program will then respond with real-time messages on courses of action if levels read too high or too low. A patients recordings can also be made available to nurses, case workers and doctors.

The pilot program is one of the first mHealth solutions to receive clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for adults with Type 2 diabetes. "Diabetes is one of the most common disease conditions, and the AT&T population is no exception. We’re excited to pilot this new mHealth solution to help our employees effectively manage their health and their diabetes," commented Marty Webb, VP of benefits and human resources at AT&T.
