Hundreds of thousands of East Coast residents make use of Amtrak’s Acela trains everyday, traveling to major stops like New York, Washington, Boston and to smaller destinations in between. And now doing business while traveling will be much easier for those commuters after Amtrak announced that all 20 Acela Express trains between Washington and Boston are now equipped with wireless Internet access.

The Washington Post reports that the service will remain free while Amtrak measures its usage and potential. Several Amtrak stations are now equipped with wireless Internet as well, including:

Washington Union Station, Baltimore Penn Station, Philadelphia 30th Street Station, New York Penn Station, Providence Station and Route 128 Station in Boston, as well as on board the Acela.

Broadband for America supports measures like this that enable commuters to stay connected to their business, education and families. Because in today’s economy, staying competitive means staying connected to broadband.
