While some doctors and policymakers have reservations about electronic health records because of medical privacy, patients of the VA are widely in favor of sharing their personal health records with family members, caregivers or outside providers, according to a study by Stanford University. Nearly four in five VA patients, mostly men over 50, said they’d like to be able to share their records with at least one other person. These personal records include medication lists, appointment information and laboratory or test results. Sharing medical records may be particularly important to patients with chronic conditions who rely on multiple people to help them manage their care.
